To be honest, there’s no peer-reviewed research on the matter, so I can’t say for sure. Dr. Mercola has talked about this on his site, and he claims that it’s washing with soap that washes it off, but he provides no real evidence that this has a significant effect. He claims that vitamin D is fat-soluble, so soap would potentially dissolve the oils on your skin where the new vitamin D is dissolved. Taking a dip in plain water won’t wash it off. And I *doubt* that the chlorine in the pool would do anything.
To know for sure, you could get a vitamin D test. If the results come back looking good, then hey, swim away for life! My hunch – you’re fine.
